Well I was having a happy Tuesday, until I picked up the Metro today and was upset with one of the headlines within its pages: YouTube has restricted access to music video’s here in the UK. OMG!!
According to the article, YouTube has restricted access to music videos in the UK after failing to reach a new licensing deal with the Performing Rights Society for Music. The video-sharing website began making thousands of videos unavailable to users from last night (March 9th).
This is not news I wish to hear, you guys know how I feel about the changes YouTube have been making recently. I am not really sure who is to blame here, I can see both sides of the story, however, I really do feel that YouTube and Google are slightly missing the point here also of a potential revenue angle.
YouTunes Music Downloads:
It’s the way forward, we pay for the download which allows you right to incorporate the download into your own videos. Hey we all use itunes or Napster and most of us YouTubers use the tracks in our videos, so how about it guys? Please get your act together, we all love YouTube, please don’t deny us the pleasure of freedom of expression. Look at some of the famous YouTubers, that guy that does the funny dance around the world and didn’t everyone love the chubby guy dancing to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Come on guys, lets give itunes a run for its money YouTunes, it's kinda catchy isn't it?
YouFilm Video Downloads:
Buy a pass or pay individually for your music videos, Films or TV Shows, save them onto a private section of your YouTube account. OK so you purchase them for your own viewing pleasure, but hear me out, itunes, you have to store the videos on your drive and that takes up valuable hard drive space. If you downloaded them to your YouTube account you would be using the space on YouTube’s server. I don’t know about you, but I would welcome this, the way things are going with iphones and 3G you could even watch your films on the go without taking up any memory.
Don’t you think it is a good idea? Hey YouTube, Blogger, Google, Whoever! I love your company, we can’t live without you, well you and Bill Gates anyway. Please here my cry and if you think I’ve got a good idea, you heard it here first on 10th March 2009, Angelselondon. I own the copyright to this idea, maybe I could even set up a project management team to facilitate and market the idea.
Get me, Angel, YouTube Project Manager extraordinaire, has a nice ring to it, do you not think?
Oh well, let’s hope Wednesday doesn’t have any nasty surprises.
