Yes, We Have No Bananas

To finish Fairtrade Fortnight with a flourish, the Fairtrade Foundation has organized a Fairtrade Banana-eating World Record. It takes place from midday Friday 6th March to –midday Saturday 7th March this week. All you have to do is sign up and eat at least one Fairtrade banana. For more details go to:

They already have over 280,000 people signed up to take part mostly in the UK and Ireland but also across the world and there are hundreds of events taking place in businesses, schools, retailers, catering outlets, council offices and all sorts of other places. It would be great if you, your friends, colleagues and family could sign up and take part.

The banana is the most popular fruit in the world and the whole UK banana industry is worth £580m a year.

Bananas are great energy boosters – around 35,000 are eaten at Wimbledon every year by players, linesmen and ball boys and girls.

Bananas contain tryptophan and vitamin B6, known to make you feel happy.

Bananas can sometimes be spotted in pairs sporting panama’s whilst running down staircases chasing Teddy Bears.

Fairtrade Fortnight Launch on the Southbank
